VASCULAR AND NON-VASCULAR INTERVENTIONAL PROCEDURES
Embolization for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome
|
Embolization for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is a minimally invasive procedure performed by interventional radiologists using imaging for guidance. During the outpatient procedure, an interventional radiologist inserts a thin catheter, about the size of a strand of spaghetti, into the femoral vein at the top of the leg and guides it to the affected gonadal vein using X-ray guidance. Tiny coils, and in addition a sclerosing agent (the same type of material used to treat varicose veins), are injected into the faulty veins in order to seal them and relieve painful pressure. After treatment, patients can return to normal activities that evening.
In addition to being less expensive to surgery and much less invasive, embolization offers a safe, effective and minimally invasive treatment option for management of this painful condition.
Key Advantages:
- Minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
