TREATMENTS OF ARTERIAL DISEASES
Treatment of Renal Vascular Hypertension caused by Narrowing of the Arteries to the Kidney
|
Renal vascular hypertension is a condition in which one or both of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys narrow significantly usually due to atherosclerosis. This reduced blood flow through the renal artery causes the kidney to release increased amounts of the hormone renin, which is responsible for regulating blood pressure. The increase in renin begins a series of chemical events in the body that result in high blood pressure. Angioplasty and stenting are alternative methods to surgical bypass to improve blood flow, reduce blood pressure and improve renal function.
