NEUROVASCULAR TREATMENTS

Intracranial Stenting

In Intracranial Stenting, a micro-catheter with a stent and/or a balloon mounted at the tip is brought to the area of narrowing inside the brain and the stent is deployed simultaneously or sequentially with the balloon inflation. This procedure is used to treat lesions that are higher in the artery and closer to the brain. These areas are usually not amenable to surgical treatment and stenting remains as a new option to prevent stroke related to intracranial arterial narrowing. This is reserved for cases that are refractory to medical management.

Key Advantages:

  • No surgical incision
  • No surgical complications such as nerve injury, hematoma (bruising) and wound infection
  • Less discomfort
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Ability to treat narrowed arteries that are difficult if not impossible to treat with surgery
