MANAGEMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS
Trans-illiminated, powered phlebectomy (TRIVEX)
|
Trans-illuminated, powered phlebectomy or TRIVEX is a procedure for direct removal of varicose veins that has become quite widespread in use during the past years. It utilizes a thin, metal, rapidly rotating resecting device to break the veins into tiny fragments and remove them by suction. The TriVex procedure is performed at a hospital, requires general anesthesia for comfort, but is minimally invasive as the resecting device and illuminating catheter are introduced under the skin through very small incisions.
While traditional varicose vein surgery is a “blind procedure”, The TriVex System’s unique illumination feature allows the surgeon to quickly and accurately target and remove the vein and then visually confirm its complete extraction. This process makes the varicose vein removal more effective and complete, by reducing the number of incisions required to perform the procedure and the duration of the surgery.
The procedure is performed in the operating room, but is on an outpatient basis and usually takes less than an hour.
Key Advantages:
- Minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
- Involves less operative time
- Requires fewer incisions
- Good pain relief with fast and easy recovery
- Minimal complications
- Removes all sizes and shapes of veins
