CANCER DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENTS

RF Ablation of Tumors in various organs

Radiofrequency ablation is a new minimally invasive technique to treat patients with liver, kidney, lung and other types of tumors. This technique uses thermal energy to kill cancer cells by localized heating of the tumor tissue, sparing any adjacent tissue. A special needle is placed into the tumor using direct image guidance such as CT or ultrasound scanning. The needle is attached to a radiofrequency generator. The generator sends radiofrequency through the needle to generate heat from frictional movements of ions. The heat destroys the tumor cells. It is an alternative when surgery is not possible or when other medical conditions increase the risk of surgery. The procedure is performed under heavy sedation to minimize discomfort.

Key Advantages:

  • Minimally invasive

  • Short hospital stay

  • Most effective for small cancers

  • Can be repeated if the cancer reappears
